Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine used a win from sprinter Kaitlyn Michalek to overcome seven wins from New Berlin Eisenhower to take the NB Ike Invite 527-511.5 Saturday. Oak Creek rode a big day from senior Cassie Ketterling to take third place with 488.5 points.
Michalek's 1st place in the 50 free was the lone win for the WN/KM co-op, but solid depth propelled the team to the win.
NB Ike, demonstrating it will be one of D2's stronger teams this year, picked up a double win from freshman Emma Gatzke in the 200 and 100 frees, and wins from Bella Passamani in the 500 free, Maddie Guman in the 100 back, and Anna Oleniczak in the 100 breaststroke. The Ike team also took the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
Ketterling, in her final year of a decorated career at Oak Creek, won the 200 IM and the 100 fly in a terrific battle with Passamani -- defending D2 state champ in the event -- as both swimmers went under 59 seconds. She also anchored OC's winning 200 free relay.
