Hartford Orioles Swimmer Stands Out While Fitting In

Thanks to Hartford coach Pete Meinberg for sharing this story...
Collin O’Connell couldn’t finish a 100 at a meet at the beginning of last year. Being a little person with dwarfism, his arms and legs are very short, yet his muscle mass is as dense as an average boy.
This year he beat the Paralympic Class S6 American records in the 50 Free and 100 Free.
The Milwaukee news, FOX 6, picked it up.

NFHS Memo on the Swim Suit Rule Changes (98kb)
An annoucement was made yesterday (8/11/09) by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) stating that they would adopt a similar swim suit policy to other governing bodies such as the NCAA, USA Swimming and FINA. The specific rule changes are indicated in the PDF above.
The vast majority of swim coaches view this as a big step in the right direction. Hopefully now we can stop talking about the suits and instead about the athletes wearing them. WIAA Is Looking to Switch Girls and Boys Swimming Seasons

In a recent article in the Wisconsin State Journal the following appeared... Doug Chickering said girls swimming will be the sport that flip-flops seasons with boys swimming to give the WIAA the same number of boys and girls sports in "favorable seasons." There is concern the WIAA could face a court challenge -- similar to the one in Michigan that led to volleyball moving to the fall and basketball to the winter.
